The kingfisher is one of the most elusive birds around. A flash of irridescent blue is about all that one can hope for as they dart across a river in search of food. Being fast, small and usually only found on fast flowing rivers makes an encounter a rare delight. Once seen it is an experience never forgotten as this colourful bird is truly striking with its metallic turquoise blue feathered cloak. They are expert fishers as their name suggests and dive into rivers lightening fast to pluck out tiny fish for food.
